Was just reading aquinas's brag post...which being from our Northern friends reminded me of small DC:

During a lesson on spelling French loan words (mainly, I admit, because an unnamed homeschooling parent who may or may not post to this forum feels a compulsion to finish the last level of AAS, even though DC knows all the pretest words for every lesson--we only have four lessons left!), it is observed that DC insists on spelling "honor" as "honour" (and so on). Accompanied by a tiny asterisk, and a footnote "British spelling". We've also had discussions about the appropriate number of "l"s in words.

Thank you, JK Rowling, Roger Lancelyn Green, et al!

This Northern friend wants to say a whole page of humungous YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for being THIS close to the end of AAS. That's gotta feel good!

p.s. Don't tell DC, but I could never take sides between Britain and the US, and long ago decided valor and honor lied in taking the shortest, cleanest allowable route to the end of the word

p.s. Random quirky language thought: my kids love using "funner" and "funnest" because it gives their Dad screaming conniptions every. time. and they get to gloatingly wave the dictionary at him. Was surprised to notice when I finally read Rowling aloud, just how many adjectives she "er's" and "est's" that we would "more" - the kids were gleefully gorging on all the ammunition :P

I have to admit that I would very likely have fallen prey to exactly the same conniptions, despite my own extensive early diet of British novels!

Aeh, you are very much welcome to use all the "u"s you see fit. (Dontcha just love morning onomatopoeia!)

And just because we're having a chat about Northern ways, I feel this is a good time to mention that my screen name was always intended to be pronounced as a long-a vowel sound, as in "eh"...

So no "AH-eh"? Too fun.
