Well little'un won't be little'un much longer - he's moving to High Schol in September when he'll be big'un.

Anyhow, he just passed some important exams but got very stressed out over English Comprehension. I want him to get the comprehension "battened down" before he moves up.I was just wondering about comprehension books some may have used?

So far I have looked at these:

    Product Description
Being a good reader is about more than just knowing the words-it's about being able to understand those words in context. With today's challenges on standardized tests, in the classroom, at the workplace, and in everyday life situations, it's more important than ever to know how to draw meaning from what you read. With Reading Comprehension Success in 20 Minutes a Day, you can boost your performance immediately! This study guide uses 20 clear, concise lessons with detailed explanations that will increase your reading comprehension skills in just 20 minutes a day. With examples from literature, essays, technical writing, and articles, Reading Comprehension Success includes: A Pretest to pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses Lessons with hundreds of exercises in test format to help you acquire or refresh essential reading comprehension skills A Posttest to show you the progress you've made Additional resources and proven tips for important standardized test preparation Reading Comprehension essentials inside include: Finding the Main Idea Determining Essential Information Chronological Order Defining Vocabulary in Context Difference between Fact and Opinion Similarities and Differences Point of View Diction Style Word Power Finding the Implied Main Idea Assuming Causes and Predicting Effects Finding Meaning in Literature Drawing Conclusions

I haven't used either, but I like that there is a pretest to pinpoint where the weak areas (if there are any) exist. I'd caution you to try it yourself first, and see if you think it's appropriate. Some of the best books I've bought I've read myself, and then I was able to casually introduce the basic concepts into everyday life. I think learning has a great advantage when it's integrated into normal context.

Other times I've done the "I'll give you X, if you annotate this book for me and summarize it."

    Good luck!

I'd try the other book first as this one is targeted to 8th graders and may be aiming a bit low for your son.

    Congratulations!
