Thank you, Grinity, for the insightful thoughts. I think if it's so close, I will apply to see. It does not hurt. You are right that the school situation could change. The GT teacher is very good but other teachers/administrators may not. It will give her support as well. Thank you also for the "talent" and "gifts" advice. I am very careful not to get this into her head. Hard-working is more important than just being "smart".

That's the spirit! Give it a try and try not to think about it any more than you have to. Near YSP or YSP level giftedness are both very unusually bright and likely to need modification all through the educational path. Yippee for the current GT specialist!!!

Carol Dweck has written some nice stuff about the need for hard work rather than just believing that we are smart. Sylvia Rimm has been helpful to me in fleshing out exactly to put it all together - http://www.sylviarimm.com/article_htp.html

    Enjoy!

Just an update. DD was accepted by DYS on March 3! We are really happy about it. I ended up submitting portfolio along with her MAP math scores, educational plans, and two references. Maybe this info will be helpful to other applicants. Thank you all for the suggestions.

Thanks a lot. I am really glad to save the achivement testing fee. By the time I assembled all the portfolio items, I was pretty confident she would pass. Nonetheless, the waiting is hard. Anyway, we are thrilled to join this big family.
