Our school used IOWA testing (standarized testing) to see if the students know all of the state standards. There is somethings about this I don't understand.

Why do states have different standards? Are States students more capable or less?

IF it is so important for the schools to meet state standards then why don't they give out a list of information for the children to catch up on in the summer?

We used the Iowa tests when I was a kid, living in Maryland 30 years ago. Later I think we started using the California Achievement Tests. I don't think it's a function of state standards; they are tests that have been used nationally for a long time

My state publishes the standards for each subject and each grade in excruciating detail, for anyone who's interested. For grades that are tested (3rd and up), you can get sample test questions for each specific standard.
