I just put in a request to have dd5 tested by the school district and I am so nervous for her. The logical side of me knows that she is high achieving. She reads on a high second grade/low third grade level, is teaching herself multiplication and fractions, she makes some incredible connections in conversation with us but what if all of this is just motherlove goggles or something? Or what if there really is something there in her and she doesn't perform well?
The testing won't take place until February and I have no idea what test they use. (No plans to ask either because I don't want to drive myself crazy researching it and worrying that there is a better test out there.)
Anyone else remember feeling like this? Commiserate with me a bit? blush

I know the feeling, and posted almost exactly the same post several weeks ago when we were starting our own testing. We did private testing, mostly because of the time frame for public testing, and just received the results. I think you will find that the testing will bear out your impressions. It certainly did for us, and made us feel a lot better about trying to push the school to accomodate him a little better.

Good luck, and try your best to relax. And if she doesn't perform well on that day for some reason, then she can always be retested in the future.

my DS has a test on Friday and I am hysterical because he has a bit of a cough and I caught him tugging his ear. I am so worried that his whole future will crumble before us because of germy friends!!!

Its official I am over the deep end! Maybe if I say something that stupid out loud (or write it down as the case may be), I will get it over it!

Yep, been there, done that. I agree, the testing is likely to confirm your feelings.

Honestly, I think you should find out exactly what test they plan on using. The more knowledgable you are, the better you understand things and also can determine if something is right or not. Just because a school tests a child doesn't mean the tester is necessarily good at testing a gifted child. Most of the time (I think I read 85%) when a parent suspects a child is gifted, they are right. You are totally normal in feeling crazed over this, but being well informed never hurts anything. There are times when the schools aren't sure what to do and I have been the one to say, hey, why don't you try X, Y, Z and they did! Hang in there, you'll get through it, but I think you should be well informed.

    Good luck, daytripper and dehe!

I agree with the rest- parents know their kids best. Just hold on tight! For me, it was a white knuckled ride initially but I loosened up when DS started to look like he loved it. Except for the processing speed part.

No kidding on the processing speed part! What a slowpoke DS is -- at everything! It's funny - I have always had extremely fast processing speed, and my husband is slow as molasses, so I guess DS takes after him...

She had her assessment on Monday and we got a letter saying she qualifies for further testing today. I'm really happy for her, we toured the school and love it there. Now we wait until there are enough children for group testing for what I think might be the COGAT then we have to wait until May to hear if she is fully qualified.
I am so glad that at least the first test is telling me in black and white that I am not making this up!
