My son has recently deveoloped an interest in the presidents. It started with a PBS special about Abraham Lincoln, and went from there. We started from the beginning, and talked about the names, pictures of them, what they did before their presidency, why they dress the way they do, myths about them (Washington and the Cherry tree, Lincoln's ghost in the white house, etc.) He's only 7 and has a hard time fathoming things like why someone would want to shoot the president, or why having a black president is a big deal. But he's enjoying it a lot, and learning a ton!

Both DSs (6 & 8) enjoy history.

They are currently into the Renaissance period, with Leonardo Da Vinci as a favorite focus. Greek and Roman mythology have been at the top of the list almost forever, with ancient Egypt popping up from time to time. When DS8 was 4 or 5, it was definitely Revolutionary War times, but his interest was really over the actual war, the famous figures from that time, and gaining independence from England.
