By the way, I was poking around the NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program site and found that they have a page for educators who might want to use this in the classroom. Here's the link for anyone who might be interested. http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/howitworks_edu

I forwarded it to DS8's teacher. Not sure she'd be interested or able to work it in, but you never know if you don't ask.

I showed DS7 the website today and he is very excited to take part in this next month. He set his goal of 1000 words and also came up with the title and main character today.

I also forwarded the link to his teacher. Perhaps she would allow him to work on it during the downtime in class?? Maybe it will keep him out of trouble. It does never hurt to ask.

I also showed my DS7 today and he's very excited! He has started and never finished several stories so he's hoping to revamp and redo one with an actual ending. His goal for himself was 700 words.

I know his teacher wouldn't do this (too much work for her) but I did send it to his two best friends' moms and they are going to take a stab at it too!

I just got an email from DS8's teacher. She's said she's excited to check out the site. She thinks it might be something that is just right for her class!

Did I mention we really LOVE her?! It is amazing the difference a great teacher can make! grin

I'm going to try it again this year. I made a whopping 8k words last year--which, admittedly, is more than I have written before. I had a glimmering of an idea last week that I might start working on. And this year, a coworker who is interested in doing it too, so maybe some encouragement.

    Hi Nautigal,

I think it's great you got 8K words done last year. Good for you! It's great you will also have a friend doing it this year. I'm sure that helps with motivation.

    Good luck and have fun!

I'm going to try again this year. Although I still haven't finished editing last years.... It's sitting at about 90,000 and the ending is wrong, just wrong!

It makes for a crazy month, but it is a lot of fun! DS7 has too much on his plate this year to participate but he is writing more than ever so it's ok. I'm trying to get DD15 to have a go at it, but she's very no commital at this point.

Ok so I dislike (actully hate) writing, but I might give it a try, and see if DS8 will also try it with me.
