I just found a copy of an neuropsychological report that was was administered to me 10 years ago. It included the WAIS-III with these results:

    The patient obtained a WAIS-III Full Scale IQ of 142 (99th %ile), a Verbal IQ of 135 (99th %ile) & a Performance IQ of 140 (99th %ile).

    Index Score / %ile Ranking
    Verbal Comprehension 134 / 99
    Perceptual Organization 150 / 99
    Working Memory 126 / 96
    Processing Speed 106 / 66

Then there is this comment: The patient's WAIS-III revealed slower processing speed relative to her other indices, the difference being statistically significant & occurring in only 1 to 17 percent of the standardization sample.

*Can someone explain to me what the comment means or give some reasons my processing speed might have been much slower? I am curious what all this information means about me.*

    Thanks!

It's a weird sentence, but here's what they mean:

The difference between PS and VC is statistically significant.
The difference between PS and PR is statistically significant.
The difference between PS and WM is statistically significant.

Of those three differences, the most common one in the population is found in 17% of the population, and the rarest one is found in 1% of the population. They don't say which one.

We care because sometimes differences are statistically significant (unlikely to occur by chance) but are also quite common within the population. Sometimes those common differences aren't clinically significant -- they're just normal human variation. Sometimes they are common but still clinically significant, because they're reflective of real problems you're having in real life (hence the Jeopardy comment).

Okay, that makes sense...now I wonder if the PS score would have always been low or if it is due to having bipolar disorder? The scores almost appear like someone with some sort of learning problem, don't they?
As for the the Jeopardy comment, I do move slowly sometimes. On top of that, one of the meds I'm on has a side effect of mild aphasia & mental fog. And I still think it's funny! smirk
