I can't decide what to think. On the one hand the principle seems awesome, the school board horrifying. It almost sounded like she wanted to refashion the school into something asynchronous but I might be reading too much into it. And what will she be able to do without a budget? Still if she convinces those teachers to come and the gifted kids to come, it could be great, although since it will obviously improve that school's ranking, you can look at the whole thing much more cynically.

Wow, I'm impressed with the principal! She seems very proactive recruiting the TAG teachers. Love this part:

The lunch room is a key part of a schools culture, she argued: Its worth having order there, even if it means spending extra staff time.

If its crazy in the cafeteria, it will be crazy in class, Tracey reasoned in an interview outside the board room. She proposed reshuffling teachers schedules so they spend time supervising their students in the cafeteria. According to union work rules, teachers would still be guaranteed their own, child-free lunch break, she said.
    and this:

Tracey also plans to bring in rigorous math classes based on the national Singapore curriculum, and a data day every marking period where staff analyze student test scores, based on a model at the Achievement First charter schools.

I also love the enthusiasm of the principal. Hope it works for them despite the obstacles.

    Kcab, have you looked here:

I found the article hard to follow, besides lunch, what exactly is being proposed? Principal sounds like a good person to know though.

I do like the idea of teachers eating lunch with students, a bit of calm social time. I think teachers also need 'alone time' during the day, but there is no question in my mind that teachers have abilities that the rest of the staff just don't have. Plus it's nice to know that you child gets a regular chance to interact with their teacher outside of the classroom setting.
