For soccer, it really came down to my speed and has always been about my speed. The top players are able to use their body to create space and their ball handling skills to control the ball both at a full run and while trying to move around other players.
This is where my son has a problem - he is undoubtedly good at dribbling the ball and getting past players - but he is short for his age, so anytime a kid with longer legs gets the ball, he can't catch them. He has to remember to out think the faster kids - and when he does, he does wonders. He's really looking forward to playing with older kids who hopefully understand the game more, so he can actually play a team game rather than his current individual play
