This site is only $10 a month as compared to $200 a month with John Hopkins. MY DS7 has done 3 courses with John Hopkins. This ixl site is very similar and my DS7 likes it way more than John Hopkins. It is more fun. It is a good alternative to John Hopkins or it is a good site if you want to takea break from John Hopkins and practice b4 taking up a new course. You can't beat the price. It keeps track of the students performace like John Hopkins, it tells you their weak areas etc. You can pay month by month even.

CTY is EPGY in math, through grade 6, at least in the main math program. So the EPGY OE program is close at $135 a year versus $120 for ixl, just FYI. wink

My youngers enjoyed the trial we had with ixl.

    Hi Melmichigan,
I am confused. We spent 1800 for 9 months with John Hopkins CTY the online program. Is EPGY a different thing?

Hi melmichigan, what's EPGY OE? I know the EPGY bit, but not the OE.

CTY's main math program, through 6th, is Stanford EPGY math, they just resell it. Stanford now has the EPGY Open Enrollment available which is the same math program without the tutors at significant discount, as mentioned above. If you search EPGY under my posts you will find all the threads about it. smile

I have never used any of the math online programs. Just starting to learn about everything gifted. DS5 really likes Math, what program is easier for a 5-6 year old to navigate through and enjoyable at that age?

    Thx.

    Memc,

I didn't use any online program for math either when my son was at that age. He's 7 now and seems to like computer instruction now, so I've been trawling the internet. Some of the fun and free stuff that have different grade levels:

    1. www.funbrain.com. Seems like a lot of lead-on ads for games that require paying. But the math arcade is really fun.

    2. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks1bitesize/ - this one, my son absolutely loves! Has math, science, literacy. I've given you the Keystage 1 site which is possibly the earliest level. You can search around for Keystage 2 and so forth.

    Have fun!
