The thing to remember about comparisons is that everybody's going to present what they're doing in the best light: not necessarily because they're comparing too (though many are) but also, if they're not, they're really happy with what they've done so it's normal to want to do that same cool thing.

And really, I can sit here and wax eloquent about how my kid is playing two instruments, working on Latin and Greek root words and algebra, and a bunch of other stuff. Doesn't take into consideration that I have to nag him to do his laundry-- or darn near anything besides play with his legos-- and that he whines incessantly about the root words. (And truthfully, so do I.)

I spent most of last year thinking we hadn't done anything much. Then I scrapbooked our portfolio (which looked amazing once it was done, if I may pat myself on my own back), and now I'm feeling guilty that seventh grade is looking bad in comparison with sixth. Competing with yourself is just sooo sad... <g>
