I was just told that our school uses an online computer program called Study Island. Has anyone heard of this? I would love to hear general thoughts or comments.

Here's a past thread on Study Island. Our school uses it too and the kids seem to like it. http://giftedissues.davidsongifted....arch/true/Re_Study_Island.html#Post71578

    HI Eleanor,

Our school district uses Study Island also. It is basically a state standard test prep program. It is divided into grades and then breaks down the separate standards and provides a brief mini-lesson, practice questions, tests, and games.
My son doesn't mind it and he likes the games. It is really about rote practice though. Our school only has the math available but Language Arts is an option for the school to purchase as well.

    Hi Eleanor,

Breakaway4 is right. Study Island basically prepares students for standardized testing. Some of the courses provide instruction, but the grade-level mastery courses usually don't.

I've purchased licenses for many of the Study Island courses and offer them for free. Let me know if you'd like to try it out.
