I'm interested in any thoughts on the TPRO reading test. DS7 is subject accelerated for Language and Math, and although Math is what he loves, he has scored consistently high in all language testing - DRA 44, SRI 468- when he was six for instance. Because he is not 'whole Grade accelerated' the county required him to take the TPRO reading test at 1st Grade (his age) level. He achieved an average 1st Grade score - with below average for comprehension! I'm not worried, but wondering if a. he was just not in the mood, or b. found it hard to focus and be fluent with passages far below his regular reading level. I don't know anything about the test, but know that I have difficulty focusing on basic readers.

I don't know much about TPRO either but DD5 took it in the fall. She's subject accelerated and reading is her strength. She had high scores in 4 of the 5 areas but her vocabulary score was much lower. I don't think this is a true weakness for her but was going to check on it at the teacher-parent conference.

When DD8 was in 1st grade, I found she had more trouble with the lower level AR tests than the higher level. She didn't care if Clifford chased a ball, a cat or a mouse and would miss those questions. Give her Pippi Longstocking which engaged her and she'd get all the questions right. I would suspect a similar thing with your son.

Looking at the link, I don't think the test would have held DS's interest at all - or mine for that matter.
