    Hi,
What is the difference between these two scale?. I'm planning to get my DS tested for gifted kindergarden. His teacher recommends, but she also mentioned that he is good at visual than auditory. Sometime he doesn't focus depending on his mood and activity level. Our school districts accepts both scales.

    Any suggestions.

    Thanks in advance.

There are two versions of the Woodcock Johnson- one is achievement based and the other is IQ. I only have experience with the W-J ach. It gave us a lot more information than the WPPSI. If you are choosing one or the other, I'd go for the achievement.

    Hi momfor2,

    Welcome!

WJ-III: there are actually two different tests: WJ-III-Cog (for cognitive IQ) and WJ-III-Ach (for achievement). Which one is the teacher referring to?

WPSSI-III is part of the Wechsler IQ tests. WPSSI is designed for age 2:6 to 7:3 years old. Then there is another Wechsler IQ test, WISC-IV, for age 6-16 yo. There are some overlap of age between these two Wechsler IQ test. I have heard the advice that if your child falls between 6 to 7:3 years old and is being tested for gifted program, consider WISC-IV (less likely to hit the ceiling, thus sometimes offer a better assessment.)

    Which test to chose:
    1. Depending on if your school is asking for an IQ or achievement test?
    2. Depending on your child's age.

Here is a list of different tests with explanation.

    Hope this helps,
    Mag

Thank you all for your response. His teacher did not recommend any particular scale.
She advised us to get gifted testing. She mentioned to check the type of tests since he is good at more visual than auditory. She asked to find suitable test which focus more visual than auditory.

I checked from couple of phys doctors, some are using WPPSI and some WJ III. But I do not know which WJ they are using.
