In the case of advocating for your child the old adage "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" is a hard fact. Many school Administators hope that you'll give up and go away. It can take a year or more to get a plan in place that works. Don't give up, be persistent and like the PP said... Get it in writing!!

    hi gals,
just wanted to give you an update re my meeting with the school. it went well for us! at least i think it did! still don't like the teacher fit, but the school has agreed to have a bcba (board certified behavior analyst - they often work with autistic kids, but behavior is behavior and their field isn't limited to asd) develop a behavior plan, train staff, and moniter program. after 1st month, school will fund 4 hours/month for program maintenance. and ds will go into 1st grade for an hour out of his kindergarten day - for language arts stuff. further testing (conners) did reveal adhd, and they did qualify him for an iep based on difference between iq and performance in life skills area of report card.

hope this helps him in school and hope he behaves well in 1st grade break out!

just wanted to say thanks! what a great group of wise moms smile

    LOL! Ya' think?

Reminds me of the 'half a worm' joke:

What's worse than a gifted kid with strong leadership skills?

A gifted kid with variable leadership skills and a strong desire to gain enough experience to grow into strong leadership skills!

omg, my peers and I SO resembled that remark as kids

Behavior is behavior! Seems like the school is really making efforts - that's wonderful news.
