thanks Dottie. That was so nice of you.

What's makes me question DS's EXPLORE test is my need to understanding his ability to be realistic about what he can and can not do. I have tried very hard to trust him because I don't always know what he is capable of. If he says he knows his Study guides and then I quizz him he is usally right. But now I question this because of the Explore test (see above posts)

Maybe with the fact that school is so easy, he thinks he knows it all in general. When I talk to school for advocacy, I say he is capable of X because I have faith in my son. This is tricky. Can anyone help with this?

That's interesting. Dd#1, when she took the EXPLORE in 4th, came out crying, told me she didn't know anything on the test and kept leaving to go cry in the bathroom during the reading part b/c it was so hard. I truly expected her to have come out with a bunch of 10s. She got an 18 on science and a 20 on english. Her reading and math scores were lower than that which made the composite lower, but overall she did a lot better than how she portrayed it.

[quote=Dottie]In time though, you can personally learn how to adjust your expectations based on your particular kid's profile and ability.quote]

    That's encouraging.

Has anybody ever talk to their area EXPLORE rep? I did, right after WJIII scores. He contributed to Nation Deceived and offered to talk to the school on DS's behalf. I thought if I needed it that might be good. I will wait for DYS to kick in first. Any thoughts on this?

Wow. That's awesome. I'm in the city with CMITES and I don't know the director.:( It would be awesome to get help, especially since our school partners with Carnegie Mellon for so many things.

    Dottie,
You are so cute to ask if everyone remembers their SAT/ACT scores! Don't forget, some us around here were gifted our gifted kiddos...we don't share the talent!
    -cc,
(who dumped all memory of taking those blasted tests during the drive home.)

I am a bit anxious too but it's not as bad as other tests. Do you mind sharing how the grade skip is dependant on this.

For one, she will get more points on the Iowa Acceleration Scale. But mostly, the arguement I have had with the school Admin is because she consistently scores 99% in all areas on standardized testing. They say there are other kids that score high too. But that just means that the kids are scoring good at grade level. This, hopefully, will show them that while she scores good at grade level, she still scores good "above" grade level.
We have had a really hard time and the enrichment from year to year is a joke. For example, in 3 grade, she was being pulled out and given 6th grade language arts, but then in 4th grade she had to endure 4th grade language arts, now in 5th grade, she is doing 6th grade language arts(which she did back in 3rd grade!)
Just hopefully another way to prove my point to the school.

I hope it goes well. Keep us posted. Have you shown a portfolio of her work? It seems strange, like they don't know what she did inthe past. Has she had any other testing? Hang in there. This is hard.
