I just got my 11 year old daughter's SCAT test results back. She is in sixth grade in public school, hasn't been taken into any gifted and talented classes(although we keep advocating for this to happen, the program hasnt gotten off the ground in her school yet!), is bored and unhappy at school, and is the youngest and almost the smallest in her grade.

She tested out in the 98th percentile compared to Grade 9 in Verbal (raw score 42, scaled 481) and in the 99th percentile compared to Grade 9 in Quantitative (raw score 42, scaled score 497). This was her first test - she feels that she could do better if she took it a second time.

So, what now? Will she qualify as a DYS with these scores? How unusual is she? What resources should she have? How do my wife and I best support her?

    Thanks for your advice!

Awesome results, adg! Congratulations to you and your DD. I would certainly take those test results to your school as clear evidence that she needs some accomodations. Don't take "No" for an answer!

As for the DYS program, it's impossible to say from SCAT scores. It's a very short test, and it's not a test that they accept. But if you're up for more testing she may well be a good candidate. If your DD takes the EXPLORE test, you will get a better idea since that is one of the tests that they will look at, and the necessary scores are listed on the website.
