I have 2 dys and 2 non-dys (the oldest ones--I never applied for them). I applied for the #3 kid because he was sooo out there. Then it was easy to apply for #4. I explained to the older kids that they were just as bright, but didn't have the same needs as #3. They can recognize it. There was some rivalry between #2 and #3, but now that they're in different schools, it's abated.

Breakaway4 -- I just want to note that when I had #2 tested I was really nervous because he didn't seem as advanced as #1 (he didn't speak until he was 3.5 yr old, he didn't read as much, he was very creative). He turned out to score 13 pts higher IQ than #1. Part of why I went on to test all of them was because I needed to understand them--clearly I had misjudged.

Thanks! Funny, we have a friend who had the opposite, oh so close with SB and qualified with WISC.

Now, the younger one's very close score (99.9 but not quite 150) was verbal. Her performance was lower, not sure if it was the day (had insomnia the day before). But she definitely seems much stronger verbally; so I think the SB would not be a good fit for her.

ODD had much lower verbal scores in her WPPSI (came to 99% with a subtest substitution). ODD had less English exposure than YDD, but not that MUCH more...

I think we will wait until she is at least 6 (to do WISC) and/or wait until she hits her academic groove...

ODD started reading "latish" at just past 4 and was reading 6+ level 1.5 years later. YDD is just starting to read (4.5).

She makes comments about not being as smart as her brother and I do think she feels like she is less capable. It makes me sad but it is hard - she is old enough to see the differences. I point out that she is really talented at many things also (she is an amazing artist) but she doesn't think she is good at anything.

Wow, this is similar to us as well! DD is 2 yrs older than her DB & she talks a lot about his abilities vs. hers. I try to emphasize her skills - great artist also - but I can tell it still bothers her. There are clubs for the HAL kids and she feels bad she can't join too.
She was chosen to be a class rep for a spelling bee & is sooo excited. She asks me all the time if this means she is HAL too. Her K teacher told me she scored really high on a standardized test that can indicate high IQ but since her grades or behavior never showed it, she has never been tested. Based on her grades & work, I don't think she would qualify. She is getting much better grades this year so maybe the feeling of competition is pushing her to try harder?
