Always looking for something for an advanced yet very young reader... this edition is particularly great because the font is fairly large (which I have learned is pretty important to a young reader) AND it has the all important pictures....

    Pippi Longstocking (Hardcover)
    ~ Astrid Lindgren
    Astrid Lindgren (Author)
    Lauren Child (Illustrator)

It is one of the few books I have found to be appropriate for tender ears in the EPGY reading program. There is the fairly difficult about Pippi's parents being dead... but to the best of my memory that is the worst of it. EPGY rates it as 5th to 6th grade, but I would estimate the reading level to be mid-third grade to perhaps early 4th grade.

(I just took a quick peek online to see what others have said about this edition. I see some have mentioned that some of the language has been changed from the original version... so Pippi's father is now "king of the natives" instead of "kind of the cannibals" and Pippi now goes for a morning "walk" instead of "promenade") but all of these are good changes in my book.

Thanks, I loved Pippi when I was little and DD has seen some of her cartoon shows, so I know she'll love the book too.
