So how do Dr. Ruff's levels of giftedness correlate with the levels MG, HG, EG, PG? I am not sure if I have read it somewhere or not before.

DD 2.8 is tracking level 4....actually she is doing many things before level 4 says but not as early as level 5 and level 5 definitly doesn't fit her....but every example of level 4 fits her extreamly well. It's actually mind boggeling and a relief to read about children that are similar to her as she stands out so much from her peers we are around right now.

Anyway, just wondering how the levels correlate. Thanks smile

(and excuse any typos, been using my nebulizer for my astha and am extreamly shaky)

There are no official, or universally accepted definitions of 'Gifted' let alone MG etc.

I can share how I think about it -
Ruf Level one is 'bright' but not gifted
Level 2 is MG - about from the 2nd Standard Deviation above the mean to 2.75 SD

I see HG as the bunch just below the YSP cutoffs, Lots of Davidson parents are here. Unusually gifted enough to feel like aliens in a gifted pull out class with agemates, usually these folks are Level 3. Could be a higher level 2.

The majority of Young Scholar Program Kids are also Level 3.They may have 'just made the cut off,' which when you think about is is about 2/3 of the total young scholars. They are PG by Davidson definition, with IQ too high to measure on modern IQ tests. Their HG parents can't understand why they just can't 'suck it up' and make the best of school the way we did. (We HG parent forgot how miserable we were until our kids got to school. Most of the Level 3 PG kids can't fool themselves so much.)

I don't use the term EG, as some make that higher than PG, and some make it lower than PG.

There certainly are noticeable levels within the young scholars program - the Level 4s and 5s. These are the kids that I expect to join SET around age 12. These kids may have an easier time getting some accommodations in regular school because they are easier for school folks to see as 'undeniably in need of something different.' But the accommodations may still not be enough.

I think my son is level 3. Would he be a higher Ruff level if we hadn't been bent on crippling him intellectually since birth, yeah probably! ((cringe/shiver, ok I'm sort of exaggerating, but looking back, sort of not. Hey - we gave what we got, yes?))

Anyway, I don't expect anyone else to agree with me exactly on this one, and I don't think it matters one bit! Sometimes vauge is ok.

    Enjoy,
    Grinity

I briefly looked at SET. Does this offer something different that DYS in terms of guidance/educational counsel? It looks like there might be some scholarship opportunites that could be wonderful and college reccomendation letters. Do many DYS kids do this? If a student does not qualify for DYS could they qualify for this.

Many DYS kids don't qualify for SET.
