A math competition came up at school that will take up my DS's extra time this week so I think we won't do it till next week. I saw they have writing even in the spring too. Has anyone done that?

Is it ok to type it for my ds6, or should he try to do that on his own. While his reading and narration skills are fabulous, his spelling and writing skills are not comparable. He really wants to do this, and while I'd be happy to help, I want to make sure he gets the most out of it. What do you think?

Go with what he wants. If he is ok with you typing do it. Maybe he will like to do a little of the typing. My understanding is it's just about writing and not grammar or spelling. He could go back and do that later if he wants or just let it go. He could learn grammar and spelling another time and just enjoy the story.

I think that's a quite common problem among gt children. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. I would suggest doing a combo. Ask him to write one paragraph or even one sentence and then let him dictate the rest. That way he will do a little it of writing on his own but also gets plenty of time when he concentrate on the story only

    Good luck.

Wolf's Independent Study teacher says it's fine to dictate him homework as long as he has some writing practice so I just transferred that over to NaNo. His brain works like that of an older kid so it's really not fair for him to have to fight his body to gets his thoughts down.

My vote is if he wants to type, let him, if not don't feel at all bad about letting him dictate.
