My 8 yr old daughter has been just "hanging" out in public school waiting for the gifted program that starts in 3rd grade. Now that we've finally made it and have all our scores I feel as if something inside her has changed or lost. She's been bored for so long and now along with the highly gifted label she has the gifted adhd label. It's not the hyper, but the dreamer:) So I carry a large amount of guilt with this naturally...but the school convinced me the group teaching method would keep her stimulated until 3rd. It just makes me wonder is it the boredom or is it really adhd? Her main marker for it was the spacing and forgetting books etc. But I'm not sure if those things are just due to constant thinking she does. Also she's so wonderful and helpful with everything it's like having another adult around the house. Is that co inside with adhd? One more thing... I did find something that actually peeked her interested. She wanted to learn a different language. Has anyone had any experience with Muzzy or at home language courses?

    Hi Beyondbuys!

Welcome! I know about early elementary guild. My son is also 'highly gifted' (or more) and I just didn't have a clue.

I'm confused if your daughter has been 'officially diagnosed' with ADHD or it's just been 'suggested.'

Also - how many hours per week is the gifted program? Is it aimed at MG (moderatly gifted) children, who make up the majority of gifted, or HG kids?

Luckily, I can tell you that I have reversed my DS13's Underachievement, and he was well into 3rd grade before anyone had a clue 'what was up with him.' And yeah, I still do wonder how much more amazing he would be by now if I had gotten him a better start. ((shrugs)) I'll bet you a dollar that it's better than what was provided for you.

    Smiles,
    Grinity
