With DD10, she learned to read before I was in the market for early reading resources, so I had no experience on Hooked on Phonics or any other program. DS4 has been my mathy kid and it seemed like he had no interest in reading or even learning letters. His pre-K teacher said last year he knows all letters and most letter sounds, but shows little interest during these activities.

Anyway, I found a great deal on Hooked on Phonics. Their clearance section has items 75% off and with a code SLICK50, I got another 50% off. The Kindergarten-1st grade 07 edition was only $20. I ordered it and DS and I opened it today. He loves computer games and the CD-ROM held his attention well. I then started the first book and turns out: he knows how to read!!! We read the first 4 books and then it started to get more difficult for him. He loves the sticker chart and computer learning games, so $20 was well spent.

Hopefully someone else can take advantage of the deal as well!

    Jen

My son went thru several boxes of Hooked on Phonics when he was learning to read. They had this at the library to borrow. The little numbered books are great. It feels wonderful to finish a stack and make progress.
