    Hi,

Is anyone familiar with the use of these for identification into G&T program? Our school just brought in their use for 7, 8 year olds. The crazy thing is, just about all the kids have tested into the program! They have to hit 95+ percentile for entry, and at least 25% of the kids are testing in.

Another weird thing, a friend's kid, HG, didn't get in. She is highly verbal, but still I would have thought she would test in.

Does anyone know anything about their use? I am beginning to think someone has made a mistake somewhere.

    Dotti?

I thought that this test was called Raven's Progressive Matrices and it is a test of visual spatial reasoning or something similar to the perceptual reasoning part of the WISC. It will identify one area of giftedness but could certainly miss kids whose strengths fall in different areas (like verbal).

The Progressive matrices are for 8yrs plus. The colored ones are for the younger kids, where they are now hoping to identify them.

Problem is, so many kids got id'd on the colored. Using the progressive, for the older kids, they got around 15%, but the percentage identified by the colored seems ridiculous.
