Thank you so much everyone. My frustrations levels had really hit an all time high with the issue this weekend. I realize that I'm going to have to try to keep the 'me' out of it, and just work on ways to help him. Kerry's brain-body mismatch idea is so familiar - sometimes you just know that in his head he's moved on, but he hasn't physically moved an inch!
Luckily for us, school has been really helpful regarding giving him work at his level, but I do wonder when their patience is going to run out - I can hardly blame them!
We're going to try 'carrot and the stick' for a while, and also look into getting the ADD testing.

Thanks for posting this, it describes my dd(soon to be 7) and grade skipped to a "T." I am also considering ADD eval because, unlike your son, she is not keeping up with the work in class and really is struggling. Mainly because she seems to have NO interest (or maybe that's her coping strategy.)

She is so distractable at homework time that I honestly have to leave the room every 10 min to take a break from her or else I would go crazy. She is showing signs of dyslexia and we have another ADHD son and a daughter with some Opp. defiance symptoms so it could run in the family.
She seems to be in her own world most of the time and we've always said that about her, we used to even believe she wasn't that bright because her personality was so full of daydreaming/non realistic types of thoughts. Then the IQ test floored us because she scored high. She's been a tough nut to crack:)

    Good luck
