DS is 6.5 and will be starting 3rd grade this fall. He is feeling self-conscious about not having lost any baby teeth yet. None of his teeth are even loose! Is that unusual? All of his 6 yr old friends have already lost at least two teeth.

DS got his first tooth when he was about 9 or 10 months. When he was 1, he still only had the bottom two...

my little guy is exactly 6.5 and he lost his first tooth 2 months ago and is now working on his second loose tooth....the dentist we went to go see 2 months ago said that he was actually a little early to be losing his first tooth and she wouldn't have expected it for a few more months.....when I taught Kindergarten, I remember always having 1-2 kids who lost their teeth near the end of the K year...so I agree with Dottie...my little guy also got his teeth in early :-)

My DD6 recently had to have her two bottom teeth removed because the adult teeth were coming in, and it looks like thats going to be the pattern with her.
Newmom21c my husband who is now 62 lost his last baby tooth when he was 56 (I kept it!) he had to have an implant put in to fill the spot!

My DS6 started getting his teeth at 4 months, had all of them that he was due at two years by the time he was 1, and didn't start losing them until 6 1/2. He'll be 7 in just over a month, and he's still only lost the first two. I expected him to lose them early, as early as he got them, but it didn't happen that way. His friend next door is over a year younger than he is, and she's lost at least 4 teeth already! I guess you just never know.

My DS6.5 has only lost two and both after he was already 6. He also didn't get his first one until around his 1st b-day.
On the other hand his cousin who is a few months youngers has already lost 7 or 8. She also had her baby teeth a lot sooner.
I agree with the early in, early out theory in our experience.

DD just lost her first tooth this month (she's 7.5!) and she's very relieved; she starts 4th grade in Sept. and didn't want to still have ALL her baby teeth. Oh, and she got her first tooth at 7 months. I know two kids that didn't get their first tooth until near their first birthday, but both lost them at the normal time. I think it varies a great deal.

DS got his first tooth when he was about 9 or 10 months. When he was 1, he still only had the bottom two... I'm reasonably sure that our dentist told me that tooth loss correlates with when the first ones came in. This statement describes my kids perfectly: DS9 got and loses teeth exactly on schedule. DS7.5 got his first tooth at 10 months and still only has two permanent teeth on the bottom (the dentist said that "his mouth looks 6 years old" but he wasn't concerned). Meanwhile, DD4 got her first teeth when she was 4 or 5 months old and she's already lost the first one with another one loose. I'm actually concerned that her mouth is too small to accommodate too many new teeth. Val

Reading all these responses, I can see that there's a lot of variation...that will give me something reassuring to tell DS DD10 has had to have most of her baby teeth removed because of the need for early treatment of a severe crossbite, so they haven't come out naturally. I really didn't have a good idea of when they usually come out on their own.
