    Hello!

I am a bit baffled by a report of my son's WISC result. It was done free as part of a study :-) and I don't have the subtest raw scores....

    FSIQ 90th centile
" should be interpreted with caution due to difference between verbal and non verbal components of FSIQ"
    Verbal reasoning (VCI) >99th centile,
    especially high in vocab
non verbal reasoning (PRI) 79th centile,
did poorly on block design but
    98th centile on matrix reasoning
    working memory (WMI) 91st centile

speed of processing (PSI) 16th centile -
    that's pretty low!
relative difficulty with timed tasks (block design, coding and symbol search)

They commented that he may have been a bit anxious.

So I am a bit chastened by the FSIQ of 90th centile to be honest, I have regarded him as gifted, he is grade skipped, read at 3, read Harry Potter at 5, great at maths.

Just done a bit of reading and it seems that a large discrepancy between VCI / PRI and WMI / PSI may be common in gifted kids.... am I deluding myself?

Thank you Dottie, I am so grateful for your puzzle work!!

He was a "normal control" in a study looking at visual spatial skills in ADHD kids, ie he was a normal volunteer. I got him to do it just out of interest, and I thought he would find the process interesting. So it was in no way a "gifted" assessment.
I feel better about 96th compared to 90th! He did score at 99th to 99.9th on a WJ achievement test when he was 6 so I was kind of worried that I had been overdoing the gifted thing since then if you know what I mean. He is now nearly 9.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks Dottie,
He's not GREAT with timed things, two examples are that they have to write out all their times tables (6*8= etc ) in five minutes and he can't get past that one to become a "Master" LOL , and also he is pretty hopeless in timed essays as he keeps coming up with more and more great ideas for his story and does not actually manage to write too much down.
I love that, take the "verbally gifted" and run! :-)
    Thanks,

That was really cool what you did there, Dottie.
