I have a colleague whose DD is extremely smart for her age. She is four and a half years old.
She wants to see if she can get the child's IQ tested privately and then share the scores with the school so the child can start kindergarten early. The child turns 5 in Nov'09.

Is this possible? And if so, which IQ tests would be suitable for her?

    Thanks

I am new here and don't know a lot about tests and such, but we had our son tested privately when he was 4. The psychologist used the Kaufman.

The WPPSI is the test generally used for kids that age. The Psychologist that they contact for testing should be faliliar with it. It has the added bonus of being accepted by DYS. The Kaufman is not on their accepted list.

Whatever psychologists your colleague contacts will probably have a preference. Both have their pros and cons.

I would suspect its the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test, Second Edition or KBIT-2... it is a popular test with some schools because it is quick and cheap compared to other tests... only valid for children age 4 and above.

For a girl - and I'm going to make a leap - highly verbal... I'd WPPSI (along with the other posts). And Nov isn't much of a stretch if the WPPSI confirms assumptions. Find a good psychologist who has experience with kids. Depending on the results having a professional also walk you into the path can be of great benefit... not just handing you a sheet of numbers above or below a bar.

I checked and it was the KABC that my son took at 4.

Just remember she needs to contact the school to find out their policy. For instance our school district allows a child to move from private k to 1st grade, even if they are below the age of other 1st graders, but they won't let any children start kindy early (at least that is what I have been told).

Or they might have testing preferences. (Tests they prefer to see)
Or they might even do the testing for her! Some schools do...My sister in TN had her daughter tested to skip k and go into 1st, and the test admin said, oh well most people are here to have their children tested for early entrance into k! (She just didn't know it was possible)
