We'll be showing cattle, GS9 has several in the show string. {brag moment}One of his show heifers from last year had a beautiful heifer calf 9 days ago, so he'll show his first "bred & owned". We have a lot of fun at the fairs, and can work in some educational moments, or at least something to expand horizons.
I want GS to compete in a 'knowledge bowl' the 4-H sponsors, so he'll be learning all about the physiology of cattle. A lot of the kids are very competitive, and all ages take the same tests, so this will be fun for him.
We may get in some more swim lessons this summer. He'll bridge over to Boy Scouts next year and he intends to start working toward Eagle Scout.
We'll be doing some camping, with & without his scout pack/den. We put in a new pond that is fun to watch fill and develop into a sustainable ecosystem.

eta: As part of his learning about self-sufficiency(I'll tie it into Scout stuff!), he's going to learn how we can & freeze produce from the garden this year. He's enjoyed growing it the last couple years, this year I decided we'll expand and I'll freeze and can stuff like I used to.

My daughter has wanted to be a National Park Ranger since she was six. She wants to major in Environmental Engineering. I lucked out and found Mesa Verde NP, which will allow twelve year olds to volunteer (along with me). We are going to do that for one week.

Ellipses - just pmd you about the National Park's Junior Ranger program - SUPER cool - my DS6 has earned a few and they have different age range programs...there is also an online Web Rangers program which is SO cool - DS6's favorite activity on the webranger is this awesome animated "trip" you take learning about the transcontinental railroad.

These are great. I worked with the National Park Rangers at my daughters first school and one came to speak to all the students and made them all rangers. It was excellent.

They have all kinds of resources in history, science - you name it. They help teachers all the time.
