My son's Pennsylvania school has no policy on graduation credit for HS courses while in MS. He has taken 6 HS math/science courses in the HS (A's in all) since 7th grade.

I am about to make a plea to the school to allow the credits to be used toward graduation. Can anyone provide examples of states or school districts (preferably in PA) that have policy allowing this?

I've found states like IL and MI that have state policies and a few districts, but I'd like to get a convincing list together.

Great follow-up. The "thinking ahead" is the reason for my push for middle school credit. In our scenario, my son will exhaust math/science offerings at the high school. It is pretty clear that dual enrollment at a local college to continue the logical progressions is the agreed path.

The issue becomes whether the class taken at the college will be used for graduation credit. Many top universities will allow credit for the college course taken in HS if it is not used for graduation credit. Duke is an example. For this reason we want to leverage all the early credits possible so we don't have restrictions in the future.

Dottie - you have a PM.

I'm just hoping to get the school to make a decision, good or bad. From there, we'll continue to use the GIEP as the best tool to meet our son's needs.

The trend nationally seems to be that schools with policy allow HS credit. I've only found a couple with policy to the negative. I'm hoping that means if pushed for a policy decision, the answer is usually yes.

Our local university will allow credit for their classes that are also used for HS credit. I did read here(or somewhere!) that those credits may not be transferrable to a college out of state. We're lucky that our university has a lot to offer, and I figure GS could possibly get his BS/BA here, then do graduate school somewhere else. We've probably got 4 years before we have to make that decision, though.
