As I sat last night filling out more paperwork regarding DS6, I got to the part about fevers. Everytime I fill out paperwork on him it asks about high fevers. So I'm curious, is it normal for gifties to run high fevers? I've always thought it was an odd question, but my DS always runs 105 when he's sick.

Nope, not mine. He had a series of ear infections when he was a toddler that always brought high fevers. But since then, aside from a dislocation, two broken bones and 8 stitches, he's exceptionally healthy. Oh, I suppose a faucet nose in the winter ... But nothing big. Fevers are rare at our house.

DS4 has fevers now and again...but not high fevers. He had a febrile seizure when he was almost 3, so now we were told to give him motrin as soon as he is warm (because it spiked REALLY fast last time). But I am not so sure there is a correlation. But interesting that there are questions about that. What kind of paperwork is it?

I have one that did run (still does) high fevers when sick and one that did not. I think it has more to do with metabolism than anything cognitive.

All 3 of mine run exceptionally high fevers over nothing, I don't even freak out over a fever of 104 or 105 because it was so routine when they were all toddlers. As they've gotten older they seem to get fevers much less frequently, but they still run pretty hot. I don't think it has anything to do with their intelligence (unless you listen to my mother- she's sure it fries their little brain cells).

DD5 doesn't, 102 tops so far, but DD4 when she's sick it's always 105 sometimes a little over that, it completely freaks me out, and don't even let her sleep alone when she's like this. So I'd have to go with mamabear on this one.

WOW! I have never been asked this and never heard anyone else talk about this.... DS7 "runs hot" he is always about a degree above normal, hates blankets and would love to run out in the snow barefoot if I would let him.

When he is sick his temp goes up, the highest I have ever seen is 105, but that is what the thermometer tops out at.

So interesting! DS doesn't run high fevers but runs fevers often and also runs "low". He has a very difficult time controlling his body temperature and it's not uncommon for him to drop to 95.5 for no reason! When he was born, they kept him in the hospital extra days because he kept going from 95 to 101 and back, often in the span of an hour.

He runs low grade fevers so often that we now have an official letter on file at school from his pediatrician that they are NOT to call me unless it goes over 101. The first month of school last year, they called me 8 times to pick him up and his "fever" was gone by the time I got there to get him!

I have a low temp, too. 98 is my highest all day long. (For any who don't know, human body temps normally cycle up and down through the day, with 98.6 being the average over time. But it's perfectly normal for it to be sometimes higher and sometimes lower.)

No particularly high fevers for me, though. In fact, I usually feel REALLY crummy if my temperature goes up to 99. For most people, that wouldn't even be an abnormal temp, let alone a fever. For me, that's a 1-2 degree spike in temp, so it's like being in the range of 100-101 for anyone else!

I have always had to tell doctors, "No, for me, that 99 is a real fever." It makes it hard to get help. frown
