Yep, I got the yips. The long summer holidays have been so wonderful. Miss 4 is feeling confident, competent, cheeky and curious. Her anxiety levels are way, way down and she's now writing at her own initiative. This morning she drew a rabbit dreaming of a carrot, with lovely thought bubbles *sigh*. And her reading has sky-rocketed. Miss 7 too is thriving. She loved the summer reading challenge and her glasses have made a BIG difference to the type (and difficulty) of library books she's been choosing. They've both really enjoyed doing risk-taking activities - like swimming and diving and generally just having fun!!! But with less than a week to go, I feel a case of the yips comin' on...

Both girls will grade skip. This has been discussed and sorted with the outgoing principal but not with the individual teacher. I'm not sure when to set up the first parent-teacher meeting without coming across as a nutcase!

    *sigh* Any cures for yips?

Hi jojo - Your holidays do sound fabulous! I'm happy for you and your girls with their progress! I don't know if there's any cure for the yips when both your girls will be grade-skipped, except optimism. smile

I guess I'm a bit confused. Do the receiving teachers not know that your daughters are being grade-skipped? And you've less than a week? If it's the receiving teachers, i'd try to set up a meeting right away. And is there a new principal, or do you say "outgoing principal" because you're switching schools? I guess I would want everyone related to the new situation up to speed.

Good luck, and enjoy the rest of your holidays.

    Hi JoJo,
    Great News!
Whatever you decide, either way is good. Do either of your girls have much of a chance of 'passing' as older? If not, then call to set up a meeting now.

Our school had an 'open house' the day before school started, so that the kids could learn their way around, and DH took DS, and they chatted informally. It was perfect. BTW - we aren't seeking additional subject acceleration, so we didn't say a thing about the skip to the teachers. I'm sure they won't mention it if we don't so we have no way of knowing if they know. LOL!

We're in such a small school Grinity, that there's no chance the girls would be 'overlooked'. Miss 7's incoming teacher would be well aware of the grade skip. There will only be 2 year 4 girls in the class (although there's 17 kids in total). I dunno. I think it's just me. I just so wish for school to work this year and my fingers are sore from crossing them!!! jojo

It's just plain difficult. Perhaps a calendar with treats for yourself on each day?

Nothing like a good case of the yips!!! Thankfully there's only 2 days to go. The last week has been like pulling off a band-aid, really really slowly...

One nice thing happened today. Miss 7's teacher wrote her a letter. It was a mass letter to all the kids in the class, but she had gone to the effort of adding some lovehearts and sticking buttons around the edges, etc. It was really sweet. And it's such a feel good way to start school.

As much as schooling creates so much angst, I really do love our little school...
