Wow! This is me, too. Total immersion learning, and yes, thank God for the internet. I did so much research on my rare form of cancer using pubmed my nationally recognized oncologists would ask for my findings.

Just a little tip: the semester system at college is not a good fit for immersion learners. Quarters are MUCH better and summer classes are the best.

Great point! I have not usually been too stressed by the semester system, but my Dh tried a couple different routes to changing careers/get some computer classes under his belt at the local community college and then again through a tech school when we were in Dallas (about 5 years ago). Complete waste of time for him, he finally just got some books, studied for a while and started testing for certs and moving along on his own.

Why? It seems to me that the longer class session of the semester would be a better fit for this sort of focus.

    I'm intrigued...
