Hi Grinity and All,
How about "going cerebrally nude?" My IQ's not exceptional, but my I've felt my musings and interests were very uncommon from most people's.

"Eccentric" is a real word that comes to my mind. I kind of think of it as a pleasant mix of a brilliant scientist with a touch of madness and the lavender scented, sweet tempered old lady who knows where all the bodies are buried.
Now you'll all know how weird I am, hahaha. Nah, we knew already! (And love you just the way you are! )

Hi Grinity and All,
How about "going cerebrally nude?" My IQ's not exceptional, but my I've felt my musings and interests were very uncommon from most people's. Love it - how about 'Cerebrally exposed' or 'OverExcitabilities Exposed' - though I'd love a word with a 'rolly-polly' feeling to it. Can we borrow anything from outside the US? Still Smiling, Grinity

Cerebrally exposed, huh? So if we are being ourselves, we're intellectual flashers? I picture little overcoats on our brains! Ha Ha!!! I love this thread, Grinity!

Oh, now I get it. When DD's principal told me "you must read a lot" and it didn't seem to be a compliment, I must have been flashing my intellect. Next time my head feels like it's going to explode at one of those meetings, I'm going to think of "little overcoats on our brains." Thanks for the visual!

"Keep your overcoat on, Inky! You're scaring the straights!" That last part is something my drug-taking friends in college used to say. I didn't partake in the drugs--I was usually "mom," making sure everyone was safe/not in jail--but I have found that phrase to be very useful for various sorts of issues along these same lines. It seemed especially appropriate here!

There are times when I don't throw an observation into a conversation or refer to an author because I feel other people would perceive that as flashing. I can get excited and enthusiastic about a subject, idea, book, and just need to share the thoughts or to liven up a boring conversation. If i'm with like-minded people, there is no fear and the talk flows. It occurs to me it's how our kids feel in a regular classroom, like fish out of water, sensing they will be accepted if they pretend they are land-oriented.

Oh thank you, Grinity and All for this thread. The past several weeks have been a low period and in addition to the laughs, the visuals DO help!
