I've started some standardised maths tests with Miss 7 so that I can measure her progress over weeks/months.

Today, we did 5 x 1 minute tests (addition, multiplication, subtraction, harder addition and place value). How do I record the results? What's better - accuracy or speed? She completed 60 questions (out of a possible 120) with 6 incorrect responses. I guess my aim is accuracy AND speed so I should be looking for an improvement in both?

It was fun (!) but funny to see her forget all of her maths rules as soon as the timer went on - doh!

DS7 is the same way. He gets panicky and moves even slower than normal! I find it very frustrating!

This may be a dumb question, but if they're standardized tests, isn't there some standardized way to evalute the results? I'm a bit confused by what you're asking, I'm afraid...

At my DS6 school, they use 50 questions in under 3 minutes, and all must be correct before they move on.
Addition first using numbers that add to no more then 20, then subtraction, then mixed. Theres about 2 sheets for each. Then the move to multiplacation, using 2-12 one at a time then mixed.
Afte this I don't know. They do other math in school these arejust work sheets

I'm afraid I'm using "standardised" in a slightly incorrect way. I want to do some regular testing with my daughters to find out whether our before/after school program is making any difference to their achievement levels. But I've devised my own tests because I can't find any "standardised" tests. So this is making evaluation a little tricky... jojo

Aha! I'm with you now. Sorry to be slow on the pick up there.

Yes, I'd say you'd like to see an improvement in both to know that you're having an effect. Improvement in one and not the other tells you that you need to work on the other skill, since speed and accuracy are really two different things.
