They are offering an additional 30% off their clearance prices section. Just be sure to shop under the Teacher's tab instead of the Parent section. They have much more available. I found some stuff I could put under the tree this December.

Also, flat shipping rate of $5.95 for orders of $75 or more. Promo code: FS108P

Didax also had some fun stuff in their bargain basement section. They also offer free shipping on orders over $65. Got a few neat workbooks for $1 and some fun games for cheap.

Hi Neato - thanks for the link. I think i'll finally get some pattern blocks, too (though they are not on sale).

In my experience, they're soooo worth it! Really! I might go so far as to call them the very best thing I bought last year. Not just limited to educational things either, but I mean the best of ANYTHING that I bought, in any context!

    Even better than Legos? wink
I have waited to get these because they have them at his preschool, and they're about the only thing he likes at his preschool right now. frown So, I didn't want to take away the "but they have pattern blocks there" excuse to coax him to go to preschool. (Because now he "hates" preschool -- thanks jk rowling for introducing the word hate to DS. It was really, truly nonexistent in our house until HP. ugh.)

    Hmmm...better than LEGOs...

For the last year, I'd say that pattern blocks have been better than LEGOs. I suspect LEGOs will have a longer shelf life, since older kids keep using them, and I'm not sure pattern blocks will hold their attention.

LEGOs don't make Transformers as easily as pattern blocks do, so even the 4yo has been making easy-to-recognize Transformers out of them. I can often even ID which Transformer he's made. Not so with LEGOs.

So yes, for this year, I think I'd have to say that pattern blocks were the winner. They certainly got more playing time than LEGOs at our house. And I could use them for math lessons, too. Very useful!

Well, I can't wait to get my order then! If anything has a possibility of being as popular as DS4's legos, I've got to try it. I must say that I am sooooooo happy that DS4 isn't into transformers!

I just hope that your getting them doesn't make preschool a complete waste of your DS's time. frown Still, if he loves them, I think you have to get them eventually, right?

DS may think preschool is a waste of time, but I don't! I need those precious few hours of time for myself. And we need him to learn to be nice around other kids and listen to teachers. (He is very proud that he's never had a time-out in preschool!)

In fact, he is telling me just now how he hates preschool. frown
