DS7 is taking the scat on monday........... At first I was worried that he wouldn't pass he english portion, he did really bad on the pre-tests....

But then he had never seen an analogy before and at first didn't get it. So i did the thing I didn't want to do at DH urgents.... i got a book on them and DL some worksheets........... he picked it up, and the last time i gave him a pretest (50 analogies @ 4th-8th grade level in 22 minutes) he got a 94%, 3 wrong. So I think he'll do ok. I hope.

His teacher this year seemed at first like she was going to be great, but has turned into a giant dud. We are too poor to send him anywhere else, and honestly don't want to have to explain everything all over again. So it's important that he get into the CTY program as school is sort of a bad joke at this point. We know that we will more then qualify for the financial aid.

The math he has done well on all along- the funny thing is according to the IQ tests he is some sort of urber brain, PG+ in reading and language art, and HG+ in math... (and pretty normal everywhere else, except art where he has little to no skill.... mom and dad are both artists, pretty funny)

Anyway I am writing this long post because I really believe in the power of positive thinking.. so on monday morning send positive thoughts our way. Good karma, good prayers.... however you do it...please please!

Sending good thoughts for your DS7 from the north star state!

By the way, have you checked into possible financial aid in places that you couldn't normally afford to send DS? (Not that those places would necessarily be any better, but a lot of private schools have decent financial aid.)

we are looking at one school, it is the only private school in the area that deals with gifted kids, and frankly, I have heard that if you pay enough, they will call your kid gifted.... :(It's a school for kids who are normal and above normal.

they have full financial aid, but I am scared we will end up in the same boat, plus they are a religious school- and my DH doesn't want to send him to a school that "preaches hate". I am trying to convince him to think about it, the school while religious, lots of kids from every religion go there, DS7 wouldn't have to take religious instruction.

DD7 took it last night. The test center security was really impressive. She thought she did really well on the math but had to guess on some of the analogies. It's so hard to wait for results now! I'm glad to hear that we might not have to wait the whole 3 weeks.

If you expose him to all ideas, he will make up his mind just fine. I still catch flak when I go home about my reading Darwin in the 4th grade and then putting the pastor on the spot over it. People still talk about it.

I think its good for kids to learn that people can be wrong and to learn to see discrepancies between things. The harder task is to learn to respect differences, tolerate conflict, and work with someone even if you think they are wrong on some things. The world is made for the common denominator and most paths chosen are not the optimal ones.
