I always offer my link to Hoagies Gifted page, which offers evaluators that have been recommended by parents and educators who care about GT education. It's not ads--it's recs from people who value testers skilled in working with GT kids: http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/psychologists.htm

And BTW, if you haven't poked around on Hoagies, you should! It has all kinds of wonderful articles, links and info for GT families. It's an AMAZING resource!!!

If you find a good psychologist who isn't on the Hoagies list, please contact Carolyn and ask to add the tester. She's always looking for recs!

Also, if you share with us what part of the country, someone might know someone good for your child. A state or a region would help us narrow down what might work for you. Are you willing to travel?

Finally, why do you want to have him tested? Usually it's smart to have a reason for testing. Do you want to get him early-entranced to public or private school? If not, then you might not need testing yet. Are there behavior or other problems that make you wonder if something is up? Are you exhausted by his high-energy need to know everything, and you want to get some help?

Knowing why you want testing can also help us to help you. If you're just wondering if your child is GT and you don't need test scores to advocate with the schools, then I'd probably counsel you to wait. A GT assessment is a tool to help you understand your child better and to help you work with educators more effectively. If you don't need that tool, you're probably better off waiting a bit.

ANd BTW, most parents who think their children are GT are right. Trust your gut on that one.

I hope that helps at least a little! smile
