Welcome to the forum!
There are many forms of online learning, and some are better suited to a particular person's needs, interests, and study habits than others may be.
- What is the online learning program?
Any educational material accessed "online" via a computer, laptop, ipad, smart phone, or similar device may be considered an online learning program. Some are free, others are paid programs. Some may be lecture based, pre-recorded videos, others may have interactive elements for increased engagement (either by typing questions/responses, or by being on-camera such as in a zoom meeting), and some may have off-line reading assignments, writing assignments, and/or projects.
- How does it happen?
Depending on your child's age, a program may be set up by the school your child attends... or parents may conduct web searches to find online learning experiences for their children on the internet. If you are looking for online courseware for yourself, you might begin by viewing the offerings available through
Coursera. For adults, some online courses may provide a certificate of completion, earn credits toward a degree, or count as hours of professional development in one's career field.
If you want to share your child's age and interests (or your interests, if you are seeking online courseware for yourself), forum members may be able to point you to specific online learning opportunities that they are familiar with. You might also look in the
Recommended Resources forum, to see the many online learning opportunities which members have discussed over the years.
