We just received the Winter + Spring MAP 2-5 scores for our 2nd grader. The school's printout includes only the raw scores and lacks percentiles based on 2015 data. So, I researched the topic a bit and created an interactive calculator to convert scores to their 2015 national percentiles:

    NWEA Score Percentile Calculator

It has built-in the 2015 tables for Begin, Mid, and End-Year for Math, Reading, and Language Usage as published here.
The conversion uses a standard z-Score computation via math.js's erf. Google analytics is enabled on the site.

The usual caveats apply (in Math, there's not one, but 3 tests (K-2, 2-5, and 6+), so scores shouldn't be compared except when the same test was taken), and of course this is an achievement test, not an IQ test, and there's apparently no research on how well gifted children do on the MAP test.

Still, I hope this may be useful to others, particularly if their school reports do not include percentiles, which is why I'm sharing it here. NWEA publishes the same data but in table form and without the interactive calculator/coloring part.

I really wish this had been available years ago - I've been doing it manually for both kids 3x/year for a long time. And now my youngest just wrapped up her final test.

I checked several data points and everything agrees with what I have.

Great tool - thanks for the contribution.

Does anyone know of a percentile converter for the science portion of the MAPS tests? My son scored 236 in the fall of 5th grade (2021-2022 school year).

    Thank you!

This is the 2020 norms document, which gives means and SDs for each grade level (they don't re-norm every year):
    https://teach.mapnwea.org/impl/MAPGrowthNormativeDataOverview.pdf

So, for example, amee's DC would be just over +3 SDs above the mean, which is above the 99th %ile.

    EDIT:
Here's the actual percentile document. p. 149 is the one you're looking for:

This is awesome—thank you for sharing! We just got our kid’s MAP scores too, and I was scratching my head trying to figure out what the numbers really meant without percentiles. Your calculator makes it so much easier to understand. It’s funny how we’re always trying to measure things—whether it’s test scores or random stuff like the rice purity test (yep, that viral one people take just for fun). Seriously though, this tool is super useful—appreciate you putting it out there!

Map report says Norm reference data : 2025 and User norms*

8th grade DS scores dropped a few percentages out of 99%

Also having a rough EF year bc they removed his IEP for ADHD. Can anyone tell me if this drop is perhaps from the reference data or if it is most likely accurate and maybe dt/ less support? And FWIW they have embedded EF tasks into course grading and he is miserable.

    First, the updated norms:

2025 NWEA MAP norms update, with data from 2022-2024. This is the mass of data, with practically everything you could possibly want to know--but you might have to dig for it:

    https://www.nwea.org/resource-center/white-paper/88182/MAP-Growth-Norms_NWEA_Technical-Manual.pdf/

    Quick reference/cut sheet:

    https://www.nwea.org/resource-cente...norms-quick-reference_NWEA_onesheet.pdf/

Secondly, to your specific question: it is possible that this is reflects the updated norms. It is possible that it reflects the reduction in support. It is also possible that it simply reflects standard error and/or regression to the mean, and his ordinal position in the right-most tail of the norms, where a very tiny change in raw score can result in a relatively large change in percentile. I would suspect, based on the absence of significant test accommodations for most high-cognitive EF-weak learners, that this is not a reflection of lower support, since his test conditions probably did not change, and the material on the test is very likely below his level of optimal instruction (hence less affected by his instructional environment).

Thirdly, to your not-a-question-more-like-a-comment: that, sadly, is a common aggravation encountered by many learners with EF challenges, gifted or not gifted. So sorry to hear this. frown

And finally, did they move your DC to a 504 accommodation plan for ADHD? Even if he no longer demonstrates a need for specialized instruction, specialized accommodations are a separate question. The disability is still present and probably still acknowledged. If you can get a 504 in place, one of the options we've used in our building is essential assignments only, with EF-forward or repetitious skills reinforcement tasks excused.
