    It is good to read this research report again - it was originally released September 20, 2011. If one reads the report on the website of the Fordham Institute, one can also see the comments by National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and others.

    High-flyers do not necessarily "lose altitude" on their own. Unfortunately there are a number of techniques which some schools utilize to close gaps by capping the growth of kids at the top. Of greatest concern may be schools utilizing these techniques while engaged in a research study, as this has the potential to throw the results.
