aeh, Thank you for the GAI! It's good to know. That is interesting that it is so close and actually less than his FSIQ.
Portia, thank you for that tip about a developmental optometrist. I am setting up an appointment soon!
puffin, that is a good point

Thanks! The psychologist really does have a good reputation and over 30 years of experience working with gifted kids, kids with learning disabilities, etc.
I have an update for you guys - We had our initial meeting at the school. Surprisingly, they were very much in alignment and agreeable! To give you a little background, last week the school came back to us and said that they would need to do another academic assessment before they can incorporate our independent WISC-V assessment in the gifted evaluation. So we wrote a very detailed and formal email to the school highlighting our concerns and questions. Yesterday's meeting was a follow-up from the email. I guess they just tried to give us a formal response earlier, and based on our research and response back to them, they reconsidered.
It turned out to be a very cordial and short 10 minute meeting with them agreeing that an academic assessment was not necessary at this time, and that they will just be able to write a GWR based on everything they have from the previous assessment in April + the new WISC V score + the new 2nd grade teacher's input. We also provided more detail and filled out a new parent input form with a lot more detail than before.
They didn't come out and tell us that he will definitely get into the program. But they did say that the process will be a whole lot quicker, and procedural at this point. We should be invited to a GIEP meeting soon.
I will keep you guys updated!
