Mostly for the PA-people here. I have a follow up meeting scheduled with the Director of Pupil services at our school district. We have already submitted our written request for evaluation. But, as you might know, the clock doesn't start ticking because it's based on # school days.

What I want to do is present our IQ test schools (they meet the minimums, psychologist is certified) so that we don't have to wait the 45 days after they received our permission to evaluation to get our GIEP started. Long story short, we'd be okay starting school this fall without acceleration if we can get our GIEP started now. Since we have a pretty detailed report from the psychologist that also includes achievement scores, we want to help streamline this process. In fact this should save the school a little bit of money because we've done the legwork.

Anyone had experience with this? Aside from re-reviewing Chapter 16, I'm open to suggestions on how to best approach this.

    Thanks.

Hmm -- I'm no longer in PA ( grin) but my impression of our school and district was that they were strictly adhering to the law but didn't want to do anything beyond that. I doubt I'd have gotten very far with them before school started and they'd had a chance to see my kids. Not to dissuade you but I wouldn't be too optimistic . . .

If you know the GT teacher at your school, you might try him/her first to see how it might be best to proceed. We found that we got great ideas from out GT teacher about how to approach the school/district once we'd made contact.

I was thinking of post to PAGE. I'll do that later tonight.

The psychologist said that because he's certified that they have to "accept" it. We'll see. This person that I'm meeting with--this is the same person that I had a fairly positive experience with last time. I'm using a little bit of leverage here along the lines of "we're okay if we go into K provided that we get the GIEP started now". Otherwise, it is within our rights to request early admissions into 1st and he does have the necessary AE to get in. But I'm going to try to use a light touch there ...

You can't go wrong by starting light. You can always amp it up later. But if you go in too strong from the start, you could end up hurting yourself.

    Good Luck!

Looking forward to hearing good news!

Huh... looks like it wasn't accepted. (I didn't get an email back saying that it was rejected, but it hasn't posted yet.)

    Oh well.
