I'm seeking a referral to a developmental pediatrician currently, but it was much research on my part that leads me to believe the diagnosis of SPD is accurate. I requested the OT eval, and the OT merely confirmed sensory processing issues. The school psychologist coded DS with a "developmental delay" to qualify him for an IEP. We have some great specialists in this area and one of the top children's hospitals in the country, so I expect we should be able to dig deeper after the referral goes through. I definitely wanted to pursue a medical diagnosis.
