We are going to be going on a big family vacation, and I would like to find an app for an iDevice that would allow my dysgraphic/dyslexic (struggles with spelling) DS8 to keep a travel journal. I would love to go old school and just find a great paper journal/pencil, but I know he won't use it. It would be great if he could attach photos, too. Any ideas?

Are you looking for speech to text capability or can he type?

We did a big trip a few months ago. Since we took the kids (then 8 & 6) out of school for a month we made them actually write in an old school paper journal but DH and I also did a blog that they contributed to as well. There was spell checking built in and we put a few pictures each day. Not sure if that would work or if you want something more kid friendly.

DS's android tablet has decent speech to text which he uses quite a bit. We didn't try this but I'm guessing we could cut and paste that into a blog (or whatever else).

He can somewhat type, and part of my goal with him doing the journal is to practicing writing and typing. I'm not too worried about it being kid-friendly as DS and my older DD are quite good at figuring out technology. I know we could just use the Notes app or the Ginger software which we installed on the iPad, but I thought it might encourage him more if it was geared toward travel. Spell checking would be a bonus as he is more likely to type if he can get the help with the spelling.

What software/site did you use for the blog?

Check out livetrekker. We just used it. They can write, speak, edit, take pictures, and create maps of the journey.

Day One is a nice app for journaling. It has a lot of features to help you keep track of everything -- topics, location tracking, tagging, photos, calendar, microphone, clean UI, customized quick entry, password protection. Won some awards. It's $5, though I did get it when it was offered free one day.

Sorry for the delay, we were out of town. We mostly used a google app (called blogger I think). The ones above sound way better though - off to investigate for future trips.
