I agree with Expat Mama, Mathletics appeared to be more drill than conceptual learning which is probably the reason our kids find it less useful than interesting than kids who need practise. Good idea about the Singapore Math placements tests.

Ultimately though, it does surprise me that the schools we have had aren't generally interested in finding out what a child's achievement level actually is. Or perhaps I am not surprised as once they know it's harder to make an argument not to act.

Thanks Expat Mama, I will look into the Singapore math. I suppose I was after an assessment tool more than a teaching tool. I just feel like he is not learning anything, and I wanted some data points to work with.

I know what you mean about the schools. but I guess I understand from their perspective a bit. There is ideal education, and then there is what is achievable on the ground, and some schools seem to manage better than others.

We might consider a change of school for next year.
