Anyone up for a book recommendations sticky? Each post could have as the first line the recommended age for the title(s), with each entry containing title and author. We could volunteer for certain age brackets to maintain a master list in Excel, with divisions like:

    0-2 (aquinas)
    3-5 (KathrynH)
    6-8 (ElizabethN?)
    9-12 (Aufilia)
    13+ (aquinas or other)

    Thoughts? Any takers?

Aquinas, that's a great idea. I think it would be better to put a sticky in each of the "Age and Ability Specific" categories, though. The OP for each one could be in charge of editing their first post to "collate" all the books in it, sorting them however makes sense to them.

Wonderful idea! What a great resource!

I'd be happy to manage the 3-5 age range! Just for clarification... I'm assuming we're talking about books that would be enjoyable for gifted kids to listen to OR read, as reading levels vary?

In the 0-5 range, sure. I don't think my DD10 really wants me to read a whole book to her any more, although she enjoyed some excerpts from The Wednesday Wars recently.

My DD12 would love for me to read whole books to her, if I had the time. Reading levels do indeed vary.

Exactly, more than anything I'm hoping to find books that are the appropriate interest level for an approximate age range, regardless of whether they're family read-alouds or independent reading books. Realistically, most families will probably borrow from the lists above and below their child's chronological age.

I'll add you to the 3-5 category-- thanks KathrynH!

I've added Kathryn to 3-5 as she volunteered first--and with a 2.5yo DS I'm pretty unqualified to make recommendations beyond the usual suspects for older children--but perhaps you'd be interested in one of the older ranges, Elizabeth?

Anyone else interested in managing the 6-8, 9-12, and 13+ stickies?
