Our educational psychologist who tested my DD6 recommended this book:
    http://www.amazon.com/Exceptionally-Gifted-Children-Miraca-Gross/dp/0415314917

I personally haven't found much literature on kids at the extreme end and haven't bought the book because it's so expensive but have been reading articles online, particulary the Davidson's database. Here is one:
    http://www.davidsongifted.org/db/Articles_id_10124.aspx

I'm not sure if you have had any testing done but does your DC qualify for DYS?
We also trying to gather information about homeschooingl as a potential next step in the future as this is what I was told might be in the works for our DD.

I hope you get the some good info to help!

    Thank you, Slammie.

Yes, he qualifies for DYS. I should have our report by the end of the month and then I can officially apply.

Is your DD in DYS? Have you had a positive experience?

Congrats Ktpie! I hope DYS will prove to be beneficial for you if DS gets in. I believe we are in the same boat. I just got DD's achievement tests back and we are so excited that she qualifies in total achievement. I am in the midst of filling out the application now. I am hoping to find some peers for my extroverted but without close friends DD.
We are battling our insurance to deal with her sensory issues so we are busy at the moment dealing with that and the fact that her behavior has been so over the top the last few months.

Have you looked over at the well trained forum on the accelerated learner board? Do you have any local homeschool supports near you? We have a charter school for homeschoolers in my town so I may do a visit soon.

They DO sound similar-- we have sensory issues + insurance battle over here, too. Plus the behavior is ramping up as it always does for us as school is winding down.

I have recently discovered the accelerated learner board. Lots of good info.

I'm in the process of finding groups near me. There seems to be a lot of homeschoolers, which is a relief. I'm sure I'll have so many questions.

I second The Miraca Gross' Exceptionally Gifted Children. I was looking for information to help me understand DD better and her book was a huge help. If you do end up buying it used make sure to get the updated version published in 2003.

For a fun story about a PG child (and parent), do yourself a favour and read "The Last Samurai" by Helen DeWitt.

I've never read a novel before that gets it so spot on! I love this book and it is now my favourite book of all time.

ETA: not many of my friends understood the book. I found the way it is written to be refreshingly unique.
