We had parent/teacher conferences at the end of January. During the meeting I discussed giving DS6 the chance to do more science activities. He is 2e and a lot of effort at this age goes into remediation and accommodation. The idea was to give him a chance to shine.

This idea turned into a new mixed age after school science club lead by a teacher he'll have next year. They are doing hands-on experiments and he is really enjoying it. DH does pick up and said the teacher was really impressed with DS.

It is so nice to see a suggestion come to life and work out well.

This is wonderful news. So glad that all the logistics worked out, and that a teacher was interested to lead the new club.

He is getting his chance to shine. This is only the beginning.

On Thursday it really hit home how important the "chance to shine" is for a 2e kid.

DS had an appointment with his geneticist and got the typical "So how is school going?" question. Instead of a ho hum "fine", DS went into a long enthusiastic response about science club, the experiments, what they learned from them and all the questions he got right that no one else knew.

Good job - it's nice when you meet people at the school that get your kid, right :-)

The after school science club continues to be a huge success. DS says it is the best part of school.

This morning another boy came up to him with a huge smile "Today is Science Club!"

The school plans to continue the club next year.
